Former NFL Quarterback Ryan Mallett Dies in Tragic Drowning Accident
It is with deep sadness that we report the untimely passing of former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida received an emergency call around 2 p.m. local time. Lifeguards had rescued an adult male who had gone under the water and stopped breathing.
According to authorities, a group of people near the second sandbar had been struggling to make their way back to shore. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the Destin Emergency Room.
Ryan Mallett, 35, had an impressive football career. He played at the University of Michigan before transferring to the University of Arkansas, where he threw for nearly 7,500 yards and earned recognition as a Heisman Trophy contender in 2010.
Mallett was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the NFL Draft in 2011. He served as Tom Brady’s backup for three seasons before being traded to the Houston Texans in 2014. He later signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2015.
Recently, Mallett had been coaching at White Hall High School in Arkansas, where he was highly regarded and beloved by his students and fellow coaches.
