Ex-NFL First-Round Pick Gets Jail Time for Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

Former Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Sentenced to Prison for Drunk Driving Accident

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III has been sentenced to a minimum of three years and a maximum of ten years in state prison this week. Ruggs pleaded guilty⁣ to two charges related to a ⁢drunk driving accident that tragically resulted in the death of a woman.

Ruggs,‌ a first-round draft pick in 2020, was driving his Corvette Stingray at‍ a staggering speed of 156 mph before colliding with Tina Tintor’s Toyota RAV4 in 2021. The impact propelled Tintor’s vehicle a shocking 571 feet, causing the loss of her life. Ruggs’ girlfriend was also⁤ injured in the crash. Subsequent blood tests revealed that Ruggs’ blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit in Nevada at 0.161.

In court, Ruggs, ‍24, expressed remorse and offered an apology to the⁤ parents and family of Ms. Tintor. ‍He stated, “My actions are not a true reflection of me.”

District Attorney Steven Wolfson emphasized that the ⁤DUI charge is the most serious charge⁤ allowed by law when a person is killed by a drunk driver. The DUI resulting in death charge was based on the blood draw results, which Ruggs’ ‌legal team contested.

“I acknowledge that this outcome may not fully compensate the Tintor family for their loss,” stated Wolfson earlier this year. “However, there was a genuine concern that the court might suppress‍ the blood draw results, resulting ⁣in the loss of the felony DUI charge. We couldn’t take that risk. This resolution⁣ ensures that Ruggs will serve up to 10 years in prison for a⁤ felony DUI conviction and brings ⁢closure to the Tintor family.”

Following the crash, Ruggs was released from prison ‌on a $150,000 bond and⁢ subsequently cut⁢ by the Raiders. He has been under house arrest since then, with limited permission to leave his residence for workouts twice a week. Ruggs will ‍remain under house arrest until his sentencing.
