Ex-Governor’s Radio Show Teaches Him a Hard Lesson

Former Governor Learns Tough Lesson While Hosting a Radio Show

Former North Dakota ⁢Gov. Ed Schafer learned a valuable lesson about car⁤ keys during an eventful ‍day hosting a Fargo radio show.

Schafer was guest hosting KFGO’s “News and Views” program on Friday ⁢morning ⁣when police called⁢ the station to ask if he owned a 2020 GMC Yukon, the station reported.

It turns out that the‍ SUV had been stolen right from the station’s parking lot.

The ⁢ thief apparently drove it to a probation office and surrendered to authorities, Schafer said.

The stolen vehicle, a 2020 GMC Yukon, had a push-button start feature that required a key fob to be inside the vehicle for it to operate. Unfortunately, Schafer had left a spare‌ fob inside,⁢ giving the thief easy access to start‌ it up and drive ‍away.

The former governor and ⁢U.S.‍ agriculture secretary admits that he has been warned about being more careful in the past.

“My wife⁤ of 31 years has always said, ‘Why don’t you lock your car?’” Schafer ⁣shared.
