KISS bids farewell with last live show, unveils digital avatars for ‘New Era
The Legendary Band KISS Transforms into Digital Avatars for Future Performances
The iconic band KISS recently concluded their farewell tour with a promise to return as digital avatars, ensuring their music will live on forever.
During their final show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, KISS unveiled their new digital images on stage, created by George Lucas’ visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic, and Pophouse Entertainment. These digital versions of the band members were made using cutting-edge motion capture technology.
In an announcement video, KISS bassist Gene Simmons expressed his excitement about the new era, stating, “We can be forever young and forever iconic by taking us to places we’ve never dreamed of before. The technology is going to make Paul (Stanley) jump higher than he’s ever done before.”

Pophouse CEO Per Sundin highlighted the potential of this technology, stating, “Kiss could have a concert in three cities in the same night across three different continents. That’s what you could do with this.”
While some fans expressed skepticism on social media, others embraced the idea of seeing KISS perform as digital avatars. One Instagram comment mentioned, “This new hologram project won’t be able to replicate the feel of an original live show, but I think it is a great idea for a show that keeps the legacy alive after the band is over.”
KISS follows in the footsteps of ABBA, who successfully launched their “Voyage” virtual concert in 2022 using similar digital avatars created by Industrial Light and Magic. As Variety reviewer Mark Sutherland noted, the initial skepticism surrounding the technology quickly fades as the avatars come to life on stage.
With their transformation into digital avatars, KISS ensures that their music and legacy will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.
