Ford reorganizes leadership amid prolonged UAW strike.
Breaking News: Ford Motor Co Announces Management Rejig Amid Ongoing Autoworkers Strike

(Reuters) – In a bold move, Ford Motor Co (F.N) has announced a management reshuffle, promoting Kumar Galhotra, the chief of the combustion vehicle unit, to the position of chief operating officer. This decision comes at a time when the ongoing autoworkers strike shows little signs of ending.
Galhotra, previously in charge of Ford Blue, the unit responsible for gas and hybrid vehicles, will now lead the automaker’s global industrial system.
Andrew Frick, who previously managed Ford Blue’s sales and distribution functions, trucks, SUVs, and enthusiast vehicles, as well as operations in Mexico and Canada, will take over Galhotra’s role at the unit.
“These strategic moves will bring clarity and simplicity to Ford, enabling us to enhance our capabilities and align them with businesses that cater to the diverse needs of our customers,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s chief executive.
Galhotra’s promotion comes after the UAW (United Auto Workers) ordered its workers to go on strike at Ford’s Kentucky Truck plant last week. In response, Galhotra stated that the automaker has reached its limit in terms of spending on wages and benefits, warning that further concessions would hinder its ability to invest in the business.
The ongoing strikes by the United Auto Workers union have resulted in estimated economic losses of $7.7 billion for automakers, according to a report by the Anderson Economic Group of East Lansing, Michigan.
Challenges Ahead for Ford
As Ford prepares to release its third-quarter earnings report on October 26, the company faces several key questions. These include the impact of UAW negotiations on labor costs in the United States and how to reduce losses in its electric-vehicle business amidst a slowdown in demand due to high interest rates.
Despite these challenges, Ford has already made significant strides in hybrid production. Last week, the automaker announced temporary cuts to one of the shifts at its Michigan plant, which manufactures the electric F-150 lightning pickup truck.
