Virginia SNAP recipients will receive August benefits in four days.
Food Stamp Benefits for August Arriving Soon in Virginia
Exciting news for individuals receiving food stamps in Virginia! In just four days, the benefits for the month of August will be distributed. The Virginia Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is dedicated to assisting low-income individuals in affording groceries, and it distributes benefits from the first through the seventh of each month. This means that the first round of benefits for next month will begin on Tuesday.
Benefit Distribution Schedule
Food stamps are conveniently distributed through an electronic benefit transfer card. The distribution dates vary based on the recipient’s case number:
- Case numbers ending in 0-3: Benefits will be available on Tuesday.
- Case numbers ending in 4-5: Benefits will be available on Friday.
- Case numbers ending in 6-9: Benefits will be available on August 7.
It’s important to note that SNAP benefits can only be used to purchase “food or food products meant to be eaten by people.” However, recipients can also buy seeds and food-producing plants, among other things. Non-food items, alcohol, tobacco, medicines, gardening items, cleaning or paper products, pet food, and prepared hot foods are not eligible for purchase using food stamps.
To qualify for food stamps in Virginia, an individual’s monthly income must not exceed $2,265 for a household of one. For a household of five, the maximum monthly income to qualify for SNAP is $5,412.
The average SNAP benefit amount per household member in Virginia is $181. Currently, approximately 9% of the state’s population, which equates to around 794,600 people, rely on food stamps.
