The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Next Round of Payments
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is gearing up for its next round of payments, set to begin in August in just 10 days.
SNAP benefits are typically distributed on a monthly basis, with the specific dates varying from state to state. Some states distribute all payments in one day or over a few days, while others spread them out throughout the month.

Eligible households enrolled in SNAP will receive their payments through a prepaid electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card. This card functions like a debit card and can be used at participating locations, including farmers’ markets, grocery stores, and online retailers.
The first states to issue SNAP benefit payments are Vermont, Rhode Island, North Dakota, and Alaska. Recipients in these states will receive their payments on August 1.
For all other states and the District of Columbia, payments will be issued throughout the month of August. Here are the payment schedules for each state:

For states with higher poverty levels, the number of SNAP benefit recipients tends to be higher. The amount received by eligible households varies by state and is based on income levels and state requirements.
On average, a household of three receives $577 per month, with a maximum benefit of $740. For a household of eight, the average payment is $1,150, with a maximum benefit of $1,691. Larger households can calculate their maximum benefit by adding $211 per additional person. However, the exact maximum payments will differ by state.
