Maine SNAP recipients to receive up to $1,691 in three days.
Maine Residents to Receive SNAP Payments
Maine residents are eagerly anticipating the continuation of payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) over the next three days. This program, which provides food stamps to eligible individuals, will wrap up for September after these payments.
SNAP benefits are distributed to residents in the Pine Tree State from September 10th through September 14th. The specific payment dates depend on an individual’s day of birth. However, even if a resident becomes eligible on Thursday, they will still receive their benefits for the month.
Payment Schedule Based on Birth Dates
- Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 collected their benefits on Sunday.
- Those born on days ending in 1 or 8 will receive benefits on Monday.
- Benefits for individuals born on days ending in 2 or 3 will be distributed on Tuesday.
- Recipients born on days ending in 4 or 7 will receive their benefits on Wednesday.
- People born on days ending in 5 or 6 will see their monthly benefits on Thursday.
The maximum SNAP payments vary depending on household size. For example, a household of one can receive up to $281, while a household of four can receive up to $939. Larger households, such as those with eight members, may receive up to $1,691. An additional $211 is added for each additional household member. On average, each household member in Maine receives $168 per month.
About 12% of Maine’s population, which amounts to approximately 161,800 people, currently receive food stamps.
To be eligible for SNAP in Maine, individuals must meet certain income requirements. For a household of one, the maximum annual income is $26,973. For a household of five, the maximum annual income is $65,009. The income limits vary for different household sizes and can be found on the state’s website.
SNAP benefits are loaded onto recipients’ electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards each month. This money is intended to be used for purchasing groceries and fresh food. Participating farmers markets, online retailers, and grocery stores accept these EBT cards.
