Delaware’s August food stamps: Up to $1,691 in direct payments ending today.
Delaware’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
Delaware’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is making its final August payments today, totaling up to $1,691. The last payment for this month will be sent out on Wednesday. SNAP payments in Delaware are distributed starting from the second day of each month, providing one of the longest payment windows in the United States. The specific date of payment depends on the first letter of the recipient’s last name.
Qualifications and Payment Amounts
To qualify for SNAP, a household’s gross monthly income must not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level. For example, a single-person household cannot earn more than $2,266 per month, while an eight-person household cannot earn more than $7,772. Additionally, individuals aged 21 and younger who live with their parents must apply together.
The amount of SNAP payment received depends on the size of the recipient’s household. Single-person households receive $281, while eight-member households receive ,691. For households larger than eight, an additional $211 is added for each extra person.
Using SNAP Benefits
Delaware SNAP payments are loaded onto a Delaware Food First card, which functions as an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card. This card can be used like a credit card, but only for purchasing food and nonalcoholic drinks. It cannot be used for alcohol or other luxury items.
The funds received each month do not expire at the end of the month. As long as the EBT card remains in regular use, the funds will remain on the card without expiration. Recipients can check the amount on their EBT cards by referring to their last grocery receipt.
SNAP is active across all states and Washington, D.C., with some variations in eligibility and payment amounts.
