Food stamps: Direct payments to be received in four days in four states.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Benefits Update

Exciting news for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)! Throughout the month of July, you will receive a new payment that will help support your nutritional needs.

Normally, SNAP benefits are reloaded on a specific day each month, depending on various factors such as your Social Security number, last name, case number, or account number. However, this time, everyone will receive their benefits in July.

States with Universal Basic Income Payments

There are four states that send out all of their direct payments on the first day of each month: Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Alaska

In Alaska, approximately 12% of the population, which amounts to 92,100 people, receive food stamps. The average payment per household member per month is $271.

The maximum monthly payment varies depending on the region where a resident lives. In the “Urban” region, a household of one can receive up to $230, while a household of four can receive $767. For a household of eight, the maximum payment is $1,382, with an additional $173 added for each extra member.

In the “Rural I” region, the maximum payment is $293 for a household of one, $979 for a household of four, and $1,762 for a household of eight. Each additional member adds $220 to the payment.

North Dakota

In North Dakota, SNAP benefits reach 6% of the population, which is around 47,400 people. The average payment per household member per month is $185.

The maximum payment is $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,692 for a household of eight.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island has approximately 13% of its population, or 139,400 people, receiving SNAP benefits. The average payment per household member per month is $183.

The maximum amount is $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,691 for a household of eight. An additional $211 is added for each additional member.

Vermont

In Vermont, 11% of the population, which is about 69,500 people, receive SNAP benefits. The average payment per household member per month is $188.

The maximum amount is $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,339 for a household of six. An additional $211 is added for each member after six.

If you have applied and been approved for SNAP benefits, you will receive the amount on a prepaid electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card. This card functions like a debit card and can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets, and select online retailers. The funds are specifically intended for purchasing healthy foods.

SNAP benefits are calculated based on household income and size. To be eligible, your household income generally needs to be at or below 130% of the poverty line. For fiscal year 2023, the poverty line used to calculate SNAP benefits is $1,920 per month.
