Maryland SNAP payment of up to $1,691 issued in a week.
Maryland to Provide Last SNAP Payment for August to Assist Low-Income Residents
In just seven days, Maryland will be sending its final Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payment for the month of August. This payment aims to support low-income residents in purchasing groceries and essential food items.
According to the state’s benefits schedule for 2023, SNAP benefits are distributed in Maryland from the 4th to the 23rd of every month. The upcoming Wednesday marks the last day for residents to receive their food stamp benefits in the Old Line State.
How SNAP Payments Work in Maryland
In Maryland, SNAP payments are issued through an electronic benefits transfer card known as the Independence Card. The specific date on which recipients receive their payments depends on the first three letters of their last name.
SNAP can be used to purchase a variety of grocery items, including meat and poultry products, bread and cereal, and even seeds for growing food. However, it’s important to note that SNAP cannot be used to buy alcohol, cleaning supplies, or pet food.
Qualifications and Income Thresholds
Interested Maryland residents must meet certain requirements to be eligible for SNAP benefits, which vary based on household size and income. The maximum amount a SNAP recipient can receive is $740 for a household of three and $1,691 for a household of eight. For each additional member beyond eight, an extra $211 is added to the benefit amount.
To qualify for SNAP, the gross income limit is set at 200% of the federal poverty level. For example, the maximum annual income for a household of one is $18,954, while a household of five can have a maximum annual income of $45,682.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, approximately 772,700 people in Maryland, which accounts for 13% of the state’s population, currently receive food stamps.
