Alabama SNAP benefits for September, worth up to $1,116, will arrive in three days.
Alabama Residents Set to Receive SNAP Benefits for September
In just three days, Alabama residents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for financial support to purchase groceries will receive their benefits for the month of September. Commonly known as food stamps, SNAP benefits are distributed in Alabama from the fourth through the 23rd of each month, as per the 2023 schedule.
Payment Schedule Based on Case Number
Recipients can expect to receive their benefits based on the last two digits of their case number. For instance, if a recipient’s case number ends in 00-04, their benefits will be available on the fourth of the month. Those with case numbers ending in 05-09 will receive their payments on the fifth of the month. The final payments are scheduled for the 23rd of the month, when individuals with case numbers ending in 95-99 will receive their benefits.
Amount of Benefits
The amount of benefits a recipient receives is determined by their income and household size. On average, each household member in Alabama receives $183 per month. For a one-person household, the maximum benefit is $281, while a household of five could receive a maximum monthly benefit of $1,116. The maximum annual income for a one-person household is $18,954, and for a household of five, it is $45,682.
Using SNAP Benefits
SNAP benefit recipients will be able to utilize their benefits through a prepaid electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card. The Alabama EBT card functions like a debit card and can be used at grocery stores to purchase eligible food products, including bread, dairy products, meat and poultry, and beverages. However, pet food, alcohol, and household items such as soap and paper products are not eligible for purchase using SNAP benefits.
About 761,100 people in Alabama, which accounts for approximately 15% of the state’s population, receive assistance from SNAP, according to 2022 data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
