Former Tennessee State Senator Roy Herron Passes Away After Jet Ski Incident
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former Tennessee state senator, Roy Herron. The 69-year-old jet ski accident.”>politician tragically lost
his life following a serious jet ski incident on Kentucky Lake at Panther Bay on July 1st.Initial reports indicate that two jet skis collided, resulting in severe injuries for both Herron and the driver of the jet ski he was riding on. After the accident, Herron was swiftly transported to Henry County Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further treatment.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Herron peacefully passed away while surrounded by his loved ones after a brief period in palliative care.
A Legacy of Service and Accomplishment
Roy Herron’s impact on Tennessee politics and his dedication to public service cannot be overstated. His former colleagues, including Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee, expressed their grief and admiration for Herron’s contributions.
“Roy Herron was a good friend to many of us. He had a heart for service and accomplished much in his life. The last time we talked, he was looking forward to spending time with his family and friends at the lake. He will be missed.”
Herron, hailing from Dresden, served in the state House and Senate from 1986 to 2012. Following his tenure in statewide politics, he assumed the role of chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party.
