A former high school football coach sued a Boston school district by claiming they fired him for political reasons. On Thursday, reports said David Flynn accused the Dedham Public School District of violating his freedom of speech when they refused to re-hire him over “significant philosophical differences.”

Flynn said he raised concerns about one of his daughter’s assignments, in which black students were told to fear white people, specifically police. His players have since expressed their disagreement with the decision.
“Coach Flynn’s an awesome guy and I think…we’re all devastated that they fired him,” former Dedham football player and graduate Kevin O’Leary said. “Coach Flynn and Dedham football, it’s like broccoli and cheese sauce. You can’t have one without the other.”
A petition is currently circulating to have Flynn re-instated.
