The Florida Republican Party Chairman, Chris Ziegler, has defiantly rejected calls for his resignation in the face of sexual assault allegations. A recent report disclosed that Ziegler is currently under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department following accusations of rape made by a woman. According to an affidavit, Ziegler and his wife, Bridget Ziegler, co-founder of Moms For Liberty, admitted to engaging in consensual sexual activity with the woman over a year prior to the alleged crime, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. Despite Governor Ron DeSantis urging Ziegler to step down, the chairman dismissed the request in an email to his supporters on Saturday.

She claimed that she initially agreed to have sex again but changed her mind when Bridget Ziegler said she couldn’t make it. The accuser alleges that Chris Ziegler proceeded to come to her apartment regardless and sexually assaulted her without her consent.
DeSantis initially called for Ziegler’s resignation following his debate with Governor Gavin Newsom of California.
“I don’t see how he can continue with that investigation ongoing given the gravity of those situations, and so I think that he should, I think he should step aside,” DeSantis told reporters.

Moms for Liberty has also distanced itself from Bridget Ziegler.
“Bridget was an original founder of Moms for Liberty but she stepped back from the organization’s board in 2021,” it said in a statement to Politico.
