Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) suspended the last remaining COVID restrictions in his state. On Monday, DeSantis said there was no reason to keep policing people as Florida’s COVID rate has rapidly declined. He also revoked all local COVID rules, effective July 1, as he said Florida was no longer in a state of emergency.

“I don’t think anyone at the time would have thought, that the fact that you have a pandemic would allow governors to seize power to lock kids out of school for a year, to lock businesses down, to constantly be issuing edicts, restricting people, fining people, doing all this basically Infinitum,” DeSantis noted. “I think maybe people thought there would be a small time, but to be doing that was something that I certainly wouldn’t have foreseen that would have been acceptable.”

The Republican added, lifting COVID rules was based on scientific evidence, which showed no positive correlation between lockdowns and declining COVID rates.

His comments were in stark contrast to that of Democrat lawmakers who have faced backlash for urging Americans to continue to wear masks outside even after they have received the vaccine.

“In fact, you have local governments in other parts of the country — I read Brookline, Massachusetts did an outdoor mask mandate, or extended that,” DeSantis said. “Even the CDC says that doesn’t make a difference. Washington D.C. just banned dancing at weddings, so they’re literally going to have law enforcement there policing people’s weddings to say you can’t dance when this is the day you’ve been waiting for? It’s insane.”

Regardless, Democrats and mainstream media rushed to attack DeSantis by alleging he has undermined public health.

However, the governor said his state has more vaccines than people who want one, which suggested the lockdown was no longer justified.

He went on to claim the radical left has done little, if anything, to help Americans regain their freedom.

“When you have people, particularly in Washington, saying: ‘Yeah, get vaccinated, but then make sure you continue to social distance and wear masks all the time,’ well, the message that that sends to people is that the vaccines don’t work,” DeSantis noted. “Because if the vaccines worked, that would be your ticket to basically live normally and make decisions for yourself. That would be the message that actually would work with people.”

DeSantis added, he is signing a bill to ensure the government in the Sunshine State cannot close business or keep kids out of in-person instruction unless they satisfy demanding and continuous justifications.

Under the legislation, the governor would also have the authority to invalidate a local emergency order if it unnecessarily restricts individual rights or liberties.

DeSantis stated Florida is — once again — leading the way in restoring American liberty after the pandemic. He urged the rest of the nation to join him.
