Transgender Miss Netherlands crowned, aims for Miss Universe.

The Netherlands Crowns First Transgender Pageant Queen for Miss Universe

The Netherlands has made history by crowning its first transgender pageant queen to represent the country at Miss Universe this year. Rikkie Valeria Kolle, a 22-year-old transgender woman, emerged victorious among nine other contestants, becoming the third transgender participant in the 72-year history of Miss Universe.

“I made my community proud and showed it can be done. And yes, I am a trans woman and I would like to share my story, but I am also Rikkie, and that is what counts for me,” Kolle expressed in a heartfelt Instagram post, reaching out to her 27,000 followers. “I want to thank the judges and everyone from the Miss Netherlands team for their trust. This is just the beginning.”

Prior to the pageant, Kolle had already gained experience as a model and actor. While having a Dutch background, she also proudly claims her heritage from the Maluku Islands.

The global Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to take place in El Salvador, following the crowning of representatives from the other 37 participating countries. The final event is set to occur in November.

Transgender contestants have been allowed to participate in the Miss Universe Pageant system since 2012. It was during this time that the former owner of Miss Universe, Donald Trump, welcomed the first transgender Miss Canada. However, a transgender contestant has yet to win the coveted title of Miss Universe.

In 2018, Miss Universe was acquired by Anne Jakrajutatip, a Thai transgender business owner.
