Fired ABC reporter admits networks are ‘biased’ against Trump – Washington Examiner

Terry Moran, a former ABC News correspondent who was fired earlier this year following a controversial personal attack on Trump adviser Stephen Miller, has admitted that mainstream media outlets exhibit bias against former President Donald Trump. In a Substack essay reflecting on his nearly 30-year career at ABC, Moran acknowledged that the bias was frequently enough unintentional but led to a “deafness” towards conservative viewpoints, as pro-Trump voices were largely absent from newsrooms. While moran stood by his critical remarks about Miller and Trump, which violated ABC’s impartiality standards and resulted in his dismissal, he also criticized the Trump governance’s approval of a major media merger conditioned on implementing a bias monitor at CBS News. Moran’s revelations confirm long-held conservative claims about media partiality in covering Trump and his supporters.

Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran, who was fired earlier this year after launching a scathing personal attack on top Trump adviser Stephen Miller, is now admitting what many conservatives have long alleged: Mainstream media outlets are biased against President Donald Trump.

In a revealing Substack essay titled “RIP, CBS”, Moran reflected on his nearly three decades at ABC News, writing: “Were we biased? Yes. Almost inadvertently, I’d say.”

Moran, once a prominent face of ABC’s political coverage, said the media’s failure to include pro-Trump perspectives wasn’t always out of “malevolent bias,” but created a “deafness” that distorts coverage of conservative America.

“It is no secret. There are hardly any people who supported Donald Trump at ABC News — or the other corporate/legacy/mainstream news networks. And this is bound to impact coverage, not so much out of malevolent bias (that’s the cartoon version peddled by Trump, Brendan Carr and online MAGA), but more out of what is a kind of deafness,” he wrote on his Substack.

“The old news divisions don’t hear many of the voices of the country, because those voices aren’t in the newsroom,” he continued, likening media coverage of Trump supporters to “trying to understand nature by visiting a zoo.”

While defending his controversial remarks about Miller, he said he doesn’t “regret a syllable of the post I wrote about Stephen Miller and Donald Trump that got me fired by ABC. I think it was an accurate, fair, and true description of those men.”

Despite acknowledging newsroom bias, Moran pivoted sharply to blast the Trump administration’s recent approval of the $8 billion merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media, which came with a Federal Communications Commission condition requiring CBS News to install a “bias monitor.”

Moran was suspended and later fired earlier this year after posting on X that Stephen Miller was “not the brains behind Trumpism,” but rather “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred.”

“He eats his hate,” Moran wrote. “Trump is a world-class hater… That’s his spiritual nourishment.”

The post drew swift backlash and violated ABC’s internal standards for impartiality, leading to Moran’s ouster after nearly 28 years with the network.
