Federal Prosecutors Alert Judge to Trump’s Social Media Post
Federal prosecutors have brought attention to a social media post made by former President Donald Trump, claiming that it specifically referenced individuals involved in his criminal case. The post was made following Trump’s arraignment in a Washington, D.C. district court and was shared on his Truth Social account. In the post, Trump stated, “If you go after me, I’m coming after you!” Attorneys on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team argued that this post was directed towards those involved in Trump’s case.
Team Trump responded to these claims, stating that the post was not targeting anyone involved in the criminal case. They argued that the post was simply political speech, aimed at criticizing special interest groups and Super PACs.
The prosecutors expressed concerns that Trump may share evidence about the case on his social media account. They urged the judge to order Trump to keep any evidence shared with his team from public view. However, no gag order has been sought against Trump thus far.
Trump was recently indicted on four charges related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. These charges include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. During his arraignment, Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, accused the Department of Justice of targeting Trump to divert attention from negative news about President Joe Biden and his family. Habba referred to this as election interference and claimed that Trump is under unprecedented siege.
This indictment marks the third criminal case brought against Trump in the past year. He previously pleaded not guilty to charges related to his handling of classified documents and alleged hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.
