Federal judge tosses out eviction moratorium

A federal judge struck down the CDC’s nationwide moratorium on evictions. On Wednesday, Washington D.C. U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich ruled the CDC does not have the authority to halt evictions, according to the Public Health Service Act.

The halt was originally put into place in the first coronavirus relief bill back in March of 2020.
The moratorium had been scheduled to end on June 30, but Joe Biden had already extended it twice when it was set to expire in January and then again in April.
