Fed-Up Abbott Set to Sign Legislation Allowing Texas State Police to Arrest, Deport Illegals in Challenge to Feds

Texas Gov. Greg ‍Abbott to Sign Legislation Allowing State Police ⁢to⁢ Arrest, Deport Illegal Immigrants ‍in Challenge to‌ Feds

Last week, the ⁤Republican-majority ⁤state Legislature gave final approval to a bill that responds to‍ the vast number of ‌illegal immigrants crossing the ⁢Southern border, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Federal ⁢numbers show that 188,778 illegal immigrants were arrested in October, a dip from the 218,763 arrested in September, according to the Associated Press.

The legislation gives illegal immigrants who⁣ are arrested by state and local authorities ‍a choice — remain in Texas within ‌the ⁣confines of⁤ a‌ prison for up to 20 years,⁣ or accept⁤ deportation to ⁤Mexico.

According to Texas law, ⁤illegal ⁤immigrants face a misdemeanor charge⁤ for being in the⁣ state, and then a felony charge if they refuse deportation.

Republican state Rep.⁤ David Spiller called the bill “a landmark ‌bill that allows Texans to protect Texas.”

“It’s a humane, logical and efficient approach to a problem created and fostered by the Biden administration’s failure ‍and ⁤refusal to secure our border,” ⁣Spiller said.

“There’s‍ nothing unfair about ordering someone back from where they ⁢came if they ⁤arrived‍ here illegally,” he said.

Mexico sees things differently and issued a statement opposing  “any measure⁣ that allows state or local‌ authorities to detain ⁤and ‍return nationals or foreigners to Mexican territory,” according to ⁢the Houston Chronicle.

The statement called the bill an‍ “anti-immigrant” law that “will result in‌ family separation,⁢ racial discrimination and profiling.”

Mexico “respectfully expresses its legitimate right⁤ to⁢ protect the rights of its‍ nationals in the United States,⁢ as well⁤ as to establish ‌its own immigration policies ⁤into its territory,” the‌ statement‍ said.

Implementation is not likely to take place any ⁤time soon, because the bill is a challenge to precedent, as noted by⁣ National Review.

The most recent Supreme Court ruling on the issue, Arizona⁢ v. U.S., says the federal ‌government has‍ the sole power to deport ⁤illegal immigrants.

The post ‌ Fed-Up Abbott Set to‌ Sign Legislation Allowing ‌Texas State Police to Arrest, ⁢Deport Illegals in⁣ Challenge to Feds appeared first on ⁤ The Western Journal.

How do supporters of the⁣ bill justify the choice given to illegal‌ immigrants arrested by state and local authorities – either remaining in Texas within the confines of a prison or accepting deportation⁣ to Mexico?

Texas Governor ⁢Greg Abbott is set to ⁣sign legislation that allows state police to arrest and deport illegal immigrants in a direct challenge to the federal government’s handling of the issue. The bill, which was approved by the Republican-majority state Legislature, is a response to ‍the alarming number of illegal immigrants crossing the Southern border.

According to federal numbers, there were 188,778 illegal immigrant arrests in October, a slight⁢ decrease from the 218,763 arrests in September. This ⁢legislation aims to address this problem and protect the ⁢state of Texas from the ⁢negative consequences of illegal immigration.

The new legislation gives‍ illegal immigrants who are arrested by ⁣state and local authorities a choice – either they remain in Texas within the ‌confines ⁣of a prison for up to 20 ‍years, or they accept deportation to Mexico.‌ This tough approach is ⁤designed to discourage further illegal immigration ‍and ensure that those who‌ enter the state without legal permission⁤ face‌ consequences for their actions.

Under Texas law, illegal immigrants‍ currently ⁤face ‍a misdemeanor charge⁤ for being in the state and a felony charge if they refuse deportation. By strengthening the penalties for these offenses, the state is sending a‌ clear message that entering Texas ‌illegally will not be tolerated.

Republican state Representative David Spiller praised the bill ⁢as a landmark piece of legislation‍ that allows Texans to protect their⁣ state. He emphasized that this approach is both‍ humane and logical, and it holds those responsible⁣ for the border crisis accountable.

Critics of the bill, including ⁣Texas Democrats, ‌argue ⁢that it is ‍inhumane and unnecessary. However, supporters argue that it is a necessary step in addressing ⁤the ongoing border crisis ‍and the failure of the Biden administration to secure the border effectively. They believe that it is entirely fair to enforce immigration laws and order ‌individuals back to ⁤their home countries if ⁣they have arrived in the United States illegally.

The signing of this legislation is significant because it represents a‌ direct challenge⁣ to federal policies ⁢regarding illegal ⁢immigration. The state of Texas is taking matters into ‌its own hands and implementing measures to protect its borders and enforce immigration laws.

In⁢ conclusion, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to sign legislation that allows ⁤state police to arrest and deport illegal ‌immigrants is a bold move in ⁢challenging federal‌ policies on the issue. The bill is ⁤a response to the significant number‌ of illegal immigrants crossing the Southern border ⁢and aims to address this problem ⁣by providing strong penalties for those who enter the state illegally.⁣ Supporters‍ believe this is a necessary step in safeguarding‍ the state and ⁤enforcing immigration laws,⁣ while⁣ critics argue‍ that it is inhumane and ⁤unnecessary. The ⁢signing of this legislation signifies Texas’s determination to protect its borders and enforce immigration laws independently of federal policies.
