FBI probes letters with mysterious substance sent to MT lawmakers.

The FBI Investigates Reports of Suspicious Letters Sent to Montana GOP Legislators

The FBI is currently investigating reports from Montana GOP legislators who claim to have received letters containing an unknown white powder. This announcement was made by a spokesperson for the Department of Justice on Saturday, as reported by local sources.

Similar Incidents in Tennessee and Kansas

Just days before, state officials in Tennessee and Kansas also alerted law enforcement after receiving similar letters allegedly containing an unidentified substance. These incidents prompted officials to launch a probe into the matter.

Fortunately, the FBI has determined through lab tests that there is no risk to public safety.

Concerned Reactions from Montana Officials

Upon hearing about the letters, Montana Governor Greg Gianoforte (R) expressed his concern, describing the news as “disturbing.” Montana’s attorney general, Austin Knudsen, took to Facebook to share that the local sheriff’s office had collected evidence after his mother, who is also a state representative, opened a letter containing a “white powder substance” at her personal residence.

Knudsen urged the public to exercise caution when opening their mail and advised them to immediately contact law enforcement if they receive a suspicious package.

Data from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation reveals that approximately one hundred similar letters have been delivered to lawmakers and public officials across the state, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
