Far-Left “Squad” Reps. Tlaib and Bush Defeat Primary Challengers

Among those who won out against their challengers were progressive Squad members Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush.

On Tuesday, voters across the country cast their ballots in a number of primary elections. Most incumbents were able to hold onto their positions.

Among those who won out against their challengers were progressive Squad members Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Cori Bush (D-MO).

According to the Washington Examiner, Tlaib “easily” defeated more moderate candidates on the ballot in Michigan’s 12th District.

This is not the first time Tlaib has prevailed over moderate competitors. In 2020, she defeated then-Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones, who had received numerous endorsements from influential Michiganders, in a landslide.

Fellow Squad member Cori Bush also held on to her seat in Missouri’s 1st District.

As St. Louis Public Radio reports, Bush garnered nearly 70 percent of the vote, with the next closest candidate receiving only 26 percent.

“They counted us out and they said we weren’t good enough,” Bush said. “They said you can’t make change. But we’re here.”

Given the heavily Democrat makeup of their districts, both Bush and Tlaib are expected to be re-elected to Congress when voters go back to the polls for the midterms in November.
