Trump co-defendant alleges Fani Willis submitted false claims about their connection

Fulton County District Attorney Accused of Falsehoods in ‍Court Filing

In a dramatic twist to the Georgia 2020 election⁢ subversion case, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has‌ been accused of submitting falsehoods ⁤in a court filing. The ‌allegations stem from her admission of a “personal relationship” with prosecutor Nathan Wade, which ‍has raised questions about her ability to handle the case.

Mike Roman, a campaign operative for former President Donald Trump, has ⁤come forward as the whistleblower who first revealed the existence of the ⁣relationship. He claims to have a witness who can‌ testify at an upcoming evidentiary⁣ hearing, potentially‍ disqualifying Willis from ‍the case. Roman aims to prove that‌ the relationship between⁣ Willis and Wade began before Wade was hired in 2022, ⁤citing⁣ conflicting statements made by Wade in‍ different sworn statements.

“Mr. ⁤Wade‌ has filed other affidavits in his divorce case which contradict this affidavit,” said Roman’s attorney Ashleigh Merchant during a recent hearing.

The allegations revolve around contradictory ‌statements made by⁤ Wade ⁢in his divorce proceedings. In a filing from May 2023, Wade⁢ denied having any relations outside‌ of his marriage.⁣ However, in an affidavit included in a⁤ recent filing for the Trump case, Wade admitted that ⁣his⁢ personal⁤ relationship with Willis started in 2022.

“So⁣ we’ve got two different declarations ⁢in two different‌ courts – both sworn, both filed with the court – that say something⁢ completely different,” ‍Merchant argued during the hearing.

If Roman’s claims are true, Wade may ⁣have committed perjury in his affidavit, potentially⁢ jeopardizing⁣ Willis’s defense ‍against allegations of impropriety‍ and financial gain. The⁢ evidentiary hearing, which was‍ initially ⁢scheduled ⁤for two ‌days, has now been extended⁢ to a third day to fully‌ investigate the truth behind Roman’s accusations.

Willis is hoping to avoid testifying⁣ during the hearing, which will be livestreamed on YouTube. However, if permitted, Wade’s former law partner is prepared to testify ⁤that Willis and Wade’s‍ personal ⁣relationship began before Wade’s hiring as a special prosecutor in the Trump⁢ case.

The defense’s claims have been met with skepticism‍ from Special⁣ Prosecutor Anna ⁢Cross,⁢ who accused them of spreading unfounded claims for media attention. Cross argued that the accusations⁤ of cohabitation between ⁣Willis and Wade were⁣ untrue and‍ amounted to ‍gossip.

While it remains uncertain how⁢ the presiding judge, Scott McAfee, will rule ⁢on the‌ subpoenas for Willis and other members of her office, he ⁤did ‍reject‌ a‌ subpoena request for Wade’s bank accounts. Additionally, McAfee acknowledged the possibility‌ that Roman’s allegations⁣ could lead to Willis’s disqualification, emphasizing the need for‌ the ⁣evidentiary hearing ⁢to establish the⁢ facts.

Willis⁢ has ⁣been paying private sector lawyers ⁣high-dollar hourly rates‍ to work on the case. Roman alleged that Willis ⁢was financially⁢ benefiting from‍ her ⁢relationship with ⁤Wade, ⁣claiming that she went on vacations and dined with ⁣him after he‍ received‌ taxpayer-funded payments from her office.

Despite initial reports suggesting ⁣that Trump may attend the ⁤hearing, his ‌attorney Steve Sadow confirmed that the former president will be attending a hearing in New York‌ state court regarding the‌ criminal‌ hush ‍money⁣ case⁣ brought‍ against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
