Michigan’s Republican Congressional Delegation Endorses Trump for 2024

Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign received a major boost on Tuesday as Michigan’s six-member Republican congressional delegation announced their full endorsement of his third bid for the White House.

“We’re proud to announce our full endorsement of President Donald J. Trump,” said Reps. Tim Walberg, Bill Huizenga, John Moolenaar, Jack Bergman, and Lisa McClain in a joint statement. “Under the Trump presidency, America was prosperous, the economy was strong, the world was a safer place, and Michiganders were better off. President Trump has proven he has the ability to deliver results on Day One and also the ability to win in key battleground states like Michigan, being the only Republican to win a Presidential race here since 1988.”

The sixth member, Rep. John James, also expressed his support for Trump’s 2016 administration. According to James, under Trump, “inflation was at 2%, the American family was strengthened through the child tax credit and other pro-family policies, and our communities were more secure.” He emphasized the need to give hope to Americans who feel let down by their government in 2024.

All six members will also serve as part of Trump’s Michigan federal leadership team, the campaign announced. In 2016, Trump narrowly won Michigan’s 16 electoral votes, securing 47.5% of the vote against Hillary Clinton’s 47.27%. However, he lost the state in 2020, with President Joe Biden winning 50.6% of the vote compared to Trump’s 47.8%.

Michigan’s remaining seven congressional members are Democrats, as are both its senators.

Trump currently leads the GOP 2024 nominating race, enjoying double-digit leads in polling and endorsements nationwide. His closest competitor, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), trails behind. The first GOP primary debate is scheduled for August 23 in Milwaukee, but it remains uncertain whether Trump will share the stage with DeSantis and other 2020 rivals.
