Eric Adams accuses Zohran Mamdani of being a ‘snake oil salesman’
In a recent statement, New York Mayor Eric Adams criticized state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “snake oil salesman” following Mamdani’s win in the Democratic primary.Adams, who is running for reelection as an independent after initially winning office as a Democrat, emphasized that Mamdani’s proposed policies, such as raising taxes on high-income earners and defunding the police, would not resonate well with the broader electorate in the upcoming general election. Adams argued that as an assemblyman, Mamdani had the power to implement his ideas but failed to do so, highlighting a lack of understanding of government authority. Mamdani’s campaign has received endorsements from progressive figures like Rep. Alexandria ocasio-Cortez. According to Adams, the general population, including older voters who oppose police defunding, will play a crucial role in the election’s outcome.

New York Mayor Eric Adams set his sights on state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani following the latter’s Democratic primary victory on Tuesday.
Adams is running for reelection as an independent in November despite initially winning office as a Democrat and his claims that he is “still a Democrat.” As a result, he will face off against Mamdani, and he issued a scathing critique of the socialist candidate on Wednesday on Fox & Friends.
“He is a snake oil salesman. He will say and do anything to get elected,” Adams said of Mamdani. “Think about this for a moment: He wants to raise tax on the 1% of New Yorkers, high-income earners. As the mayor, you don’t have the authority to do that. You know who has the authority to do that? An assemblyman, which he is. He wants to do free buses, he could have done it as an assemblyman. He doesn’t understand the power of government.”
Among Mamdani’s campaign promises are to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel; freeze rent; defund the police; and provide free child care. Adams suggested that Mamdani’s policies will not be popular among the general population of New York.
“When you look at the total number of Democrats, the primary always brings out the left part of the party, always,” Adams said. “Well, now you are going into the general election. You are going to get those grandmothers, those granddads, those working-class people who are going to come out because they realize they don’t want to defund their police department.”

Mamdani has the endorsements of more progressive politicians such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) opted not to endorse any candidate ahead of the race. Attorney General Letitia James, however, came out strong against former Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a rally Sunday, asking voters not to “engage in amnesia,” as she was behind the report that found 11 women had accusations against the then-governor. James revealed her ranked choices were Adrienne Adams, Brian Lander, Mamdani, and Zellnor Myrie.
