Emmer says Walz ‘criminally complicit’ in Minnesota fraud
The article reports that GOP leaders, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer and the Republican National committee (RNC), have accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of being either “criminally complicit” or disastrously incompetent in allowing massive fraud in a state-run assistance program called Feeding Our Future. Seventy-eight individuals, mostly Somali asylum-seekers, were indicted for defrauding the program of $250 million, with overall fraud across social services exceeding $1 billion. Whistleblowers from the Minnesota Department of Human services allege that Walz was aware of the fraud but failed to act and retaliated against those exposing it. The White House and GOP leaders criticize Democratic leadership for permitting refugees and migrants to abuse government aid programs, draining resources meant for law-abiding taxpayers. Former President Donald Trump responded by terminating the Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in Minnesota, citing their alleged involvement in fraud and gang activity.
GOP leadership questions if Walz is ‘criminally complicit’ in Minnesota fraud
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) and the Republican National Committee accused Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) of deliberately allowing widespread fraud in a state-administered government assistance program to feed school children.
Seventy-eight people, the majority of whom are Somali asylum-seekers, were indicted on charges of defrauding the Feeding Our Future program of $250 million under Walz’s watch. Fraud from other social services raised the estimated amount stolen to over $1 billion.
“Minnesota taxpayers have been robbed of more than a billion dollars and counting under the failed leadership of Tim Walz,” Emmer told the Washington Examiner in an exclusive statement. “He and his administration sat idly by while fraudsters lined their pockets and allegedly bankrolled terrorists abroad by abusing a system of Walz’s own creation. The sheer magnitude of the fraud begs the question: Was Walz disastrously incompetent or criminally complicit?”
Similarly, the RNC said Walz suppressed the information when it was brought to his attention by Minnesota government employees and accused him of using intimidation tactics to silence the whistleblowers.
“This is yet another reminder of why Americans overwhelmingly rejected Tim Walz,” the RNC said. “Under his watch, Minnesota became ground zero for massive fraud. Instead of fixing it, Walz retaliated against the very whistleblowers who tried to stop it using intimidation, cover-ups, and excuses. Even Kamala Harris and the DNC were warned about Walz’s incompetence and did nothing.”
The White House reacted to the alleged fraud, accusing Democratic leadership of allowing the asylum-seekers to defraud taxpayers.
“Another scheme involved hundreds of organizations, who were reimbursed for services that were supposed to help people at risk of homelessness. Once again, those services were never provided,” White House press secretary Karolina Leavitt said during a press conference. “All of this has happened under Democrat leadership in a Democrat run state where these refugees, these migrants, are coming to the United States, they are abusing our system.”
“They are draining our resources that should be going to law-abiding, taxpayer-funded, tax-paying Americans, and this president is not going to put up with it anymore,” Leavitt added.
The scrutiny comes after anonymous whistleblowers from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the agency responsible for administering the programs, accused Walz of knowing about the fraud but not doing anything to stop it.
“Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota. We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response,” the whistleblowers wrote on X via an account that was suspended.
“Tim Walz systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression, and did his best to discredit fraud reports,” they added. “Instead of partnership, we got the full weight of retaliation.”
MINNESOTA HUMAN SERVICES EMPLOYEES BLAME WALZ FOR ‘MASSIVE FRAUD’ IN STATE
As a result of the fraud, President Donald Trump moved on Nov. 21 to revoke the temporary protected status of Somali immigrants, citing their alleged role in the widespread fraud in government assistance programs.
“Minnesota, under Governor Waltz, is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!”
