In response to the cultural reaction surrounding George Floyd’s death, Gay established the task force to address the “historical reckoning with racial injustice,” as stated in Rufo’s article.
One of the task force’s recommendations was to alter the decor in certain university spaces, particularly those dominated by portraits of white men. Annenberg Hall was specifically mentioned, where the majority of the 23 portraits displayed were of white men, with no women represented. The task force’s focus was solely on the race and sex of the individuals depicted, disregarding their accomplishments or contributions to the university.

Eleven out of twelve members of the board expressed their confidence in Gay’s leadership and her ability to address the pressing societal issues at hand.
