A tragic incident occurred in Dayton, Ohio, where an elementary school bus crash resulted in the loss of a student’s life and left 23 others injured.
On Tuesday, a Northwestern Local Schools District bus with 52 children on board crashed and overturned, causing one student to be ejected from the vehicle and tragically losing their life. The incident also resulted in 23 other students being transported to the hospital for medical attention.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Tyler Ross, the crash occurred when a Honda Odyssey vehicle drifted left of center into the westbound lane where the school bus was traveling.
In an attempt to avoid the collision, the bus maneuvered onto the shoulder but was unable to change lanes in time, resulting in the unfortunate collision with the other car.
As a result of the impact, the school bus veered off the road and overturned, while the Honda also drove off the road and came to a stop.
Tragically, the student who was ejected from the bus was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders transported 13 children to the hospital, while 10 others were taken by their family members. Out of the 23 injured, only one is reported to have life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the Honda, including the driver and passenger, were also taken to the Springfield Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The bus driver sustained only minor injuries, according to reports.
The authorities are currently investigating the incident, and the families of those involved have been notified.
