Who are the six co-conspirators in the Jan. 6 case involving Donald Trump’s indictment?
Special Counsel Identifies Co-Conspirators in Indictment Related to Trump’s Election Efforts
Special counsel Jack Smith has revealed six “co-conspirators” in a grand jury indictment delivered on Tuesday, which is connected to former President Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Smith has charged Trump with conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruct an official proceeding, among other charges. He also alleges that Trump enlisted co-conspirators to assist him in his criminal efforts to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election and retain power.
Alleged Co-Conspirators:
- Rudy Giuliani
- John Eastman
- Sidney Powell
- Jeffrey Clark
- Kenneth Chesebro
- Unnamed “Co-Conspirator 6”
Giuliani, former New York City mayor and Trump attorney, is described in the indictment as “willing to spread knowingly false claims and pursue strategies” that Trump’s campaign attorneys would not. He presented cases for alleged election fraud in battleground states in 2020 on behalf of Trump.
Eastman, an attorney, is accused of devising and attempting to implement a strategy to obstruct the certification of the presidential election by leveraging the Vice President’s ceremonial role overseeing the certification proceeding.
Powell, an attorney, filed a lawsuit known as “the Kraken” in Georgia, claiming massive fraud had occurred through Dominion Voting Systems voting machines. The indictment states that Trump privately acknowledged Powell’s claims sounded “crazy,” but still embraced and amplified her disinformation.
Clark, who worked in the Justice Department, allegedly attempted to use Trump’s DOJ to open sham election crime investigations and influence state legislatures with false claims of election fraud. He drafted a letter from the DOJ to state officials, asserting “evidence of significant irregularities” in various state elections.
Chesebro, an attorney, played a role in creating and pushing for the implementation of a corrupt plan to subvert the federal government function by stopping Biden electors’ votes from being counted and certified. He advocated for the plan’s execution in six battleground states and later New Mexico.
This individual, identified as a political consultant, helped implement a plan to submit fraudulent slates of presidential electors to obstruct the certification proceeding.
The indictment provides details about the alleged actions of these co-conspirators, shedding light on their involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results.
It is important to note that the identity of the sixth co-conspirator remains unclear at this time.
