Donald Trump indicted: Ex-president claims, ‘I’m arrested on your behalf’
Former President Donald Trump Fires Off Truth Social Posts Ahead of Arraignment
Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to share his thoughts before heading to Washington, D.C. for his third arraignment this year. In a series of posts, he boldly declared, “I am being arrested for you.”
“I need one more indictment to ensure my election!”
“I am now going to Washington, D.C., to be arrested for having challenged a corrupt, rigged & stolen election. It is a great honor, because I am being arrested for you.”
Trump’s Journey to the Courthouse
Later that afternoon, Trump left his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, and made his way to Newark Airport for his arraignment in D.C. The E. Barrett Prettyman federal courthouse, located less than half a mile from the U.S. Capitol, will be the site of the proceeding at around 4 p.m. local time.
Tightened security measures, including barriers and increased police presence, have been implemented around the courthouse in preparation for the event.
What to Expect at the Arraignment
Upon arrival, the former president will be arrested and taken into custody, where he will undergo fingerprinting. Unlike his previous indictments, no mug shot will be taken. During the proceeding, Trump is expected to enter a plea, having pleaded not guilty in his past two arraignments this year.
It remains uncertain whether Trump will address the press during his brief stay in the nation’s capital.
The Charges Against Trump
Earlier this week, Trump was indicted in connection with his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the subsequent Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which occurred just feet away from the courthouse. He faces four separate federal charges:
- Conspiracy to defraud the United States
- Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding
- Obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding
- Conspiracy against rights
Outside the courthouse, a small group of Trump supporters were outnumbered by a large presence of press members. However, most of the former president’s supporters proudly displayed flags, wore shirts, or held signs showing their support.
