DOJ launches criminal investigation into Andrew Cuomo over allegations he lied to Congress – Washington Examiner
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has initiated a criminal examination into former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo regarding allegations that he lied during a congressional hearing. This investigation is linked to concerns that Cuomo’s management may have misrepresented nursing home data, concealing the deaths of thousands of elderly residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The inquiry follows a congressional report that accused Cuomo of being involved in a calculated cover-up and lying to Congress. The investigation has drawn attention following calls from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer for a probe into the matter. Cuomo’s spokesperson has countered these allegations, labeling the investigation as politically motivated and part of “lawfare” and election interference. Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace amid sexual harassment allegations, had recently announced plans to run for mayor of New York City.
DOJ launches criminal investigation into Andrew Cuomo over allegations he lied to Congress
The Department of Justice launched a criminal investigation into former New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo over accusations he lied in a congressional hearing, according to multiple reports.
The investigation surrounds concerns that Cuomo’s administration presented nursing home data that concealed the deaths of several thousand senior citizens in New York during the COVID-19 pandemic, per the New York Times and several other outlets.
The revelations follow calls from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) in April urging the DOJ to open an investigation into Cuomo.
“We have never been informed of any such matter, so why would someone leak it now? The answer is obvious: This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple — something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against,” Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi told the Washington Examiner.
“Gov. Cuomo testified truthfully to the best of his recollection about events from four years earlier, and he offered to address any follow-up questions from the subcommittee — but from the beginning, this was all transparently political,” he added.

The chairman cited a congressional report released last year that found Cuomo lied to Congress regarding his role in the nursing home controversy and concluded that the former New York governor was guilty of being involved in a “calculated cover-up.” The act of lying to Congress should be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Comer argued.
The investigation marks a downturn for Cuomo, who announced in March a campaign to become New York City’s next mayor. He resigned in disgrace four years ago as the state’s governor under a cloud of sexual harassment allegations.
