It seems that Sen. Dick ‘Fully Vaccinated’ Durbin (D-IL) is facing his third bout of COVID-19 in just one year.
Before diving into this story, it’s important to note that questioning the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines may be seen as spreading misinformation and a threat to democracy by the government.
On Monday, Durbin took to Twitter to announce his positive test result: “Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 today. I’m disappointed to have to miss critical work on the Senate’s NDAA this week in Washington. Consistent with CDC guidelines, I’ll quarantine at home and follow the advice of my doctor while I work remotely.”

This is not the first time Durbin has contracted the virus. He previously tested positive in March 2023, stating, “Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated and boosted and only experiencing minor symptoms. I will quarantine consistent with CDC guidelines and follow advice from my doctor while I continue to work remotely.”

Interestingly, Durbin’s appreciation for the vaccine seems to have waned as he continues to contract COVID-19. His previous tweet in July 2022, when he had COVID-19, was almost identical to his recent statements.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19,” he tweeted back then. “Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated and double boosted and only experiencing minor symptoms. Consistent with CDC guidelines, I will quarantine and follow advice from my doctor while I continue to work remotely.”

It’s understandable that Durbin may be frustrated with his repeated infections, especially considering the assurances he received from his peers. President Joe Biden, for instance, claimed that getting vaccinated would prevent individuals from contracting COVID-19:

In response to Durbin’s repeated COVID-19 infections, Steve Cortes, spokesman for the Never Back Down PAC, tweeted, “It’s quite amazing that Big Pharma seems to endure zero blowback from ardent supporters — even as the ‘fully vaxed and boosted’ crowd contracts Covid 3, 4, even 5 times after dutifully getting their Fauci jabs???”

We wish Durbin a speedy recovery and hope that an annual vaccine will prevent future infections. However, only time will tell.
