DeSantis cautions GOP: Trump-like behavior equals 2024 defeat.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Warns GOP: Emulating Trump’s Demeanor Will Lead to Loss in 2024
During a captivating town hall interview with WMUR’s ”Conversation With the Candidate,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis delivered a powerful message to fellow Republican lawmakers and candidates. He cautioned that if the GOP chooses to adopt the same behavior as former President Donald Trump, they will face defeat in the 2024 elections.
“These insults are so phony; these insults are juvenile,” DeSantis passionately expressed. “That is not the way a great nation should be conducting itself. That is not the way the president of the United States should be conducting himself.”
DeSantis Urges Republicans to Rise Above
DeSantis’s remarks come at a time when Trump maintains a strong lead in the GOP presidential primary. However, the Florida governor believes that mimicking Trump’s behavior is a losing strategy for both the former president and the Republican Party as a whole.
“As Republicans, that will cause us to lose if we behave that way,” DeSantis cautioned. “There are millions of voters out there who do not like what Biden is doing to this country. They do not like the direction the country is going in. But they aren’t going to sign up for a candidate who is behaving like that. So, let’s be better. Let’s look higher, and let’s set a good standard for our children to follow.”
DeSantis’s latest comments coincide with his campaign reset, as he strives to narrow the gap between himself and Trump before the primary elections next year. Recognizing financial challenges, the Florida governor has already taken steps to downsize his staff.
Despite DeSantis being the runner-up in most surveys, Trump maintains a commanding lead of nearly 40 points in national polling. According to data from FiveThirtyEight, an average of approximately 53% of voters express their support for Trump, while only 14% back DeSantis.
