DeSantis and Trump react to Aldean attacks.
Republican Candidates Defend Jason Aldean Amid Backlash Over Hit Song
Republican presidential candidates Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump came to the defense of country music star Jason Aldean on Wednesday, following the backlash against his latest hit song.
The 46-year-old singer’s song, “Try That In A Small Town,” was released in May, but it wasn’t until the music video dropped on July 14 that controversy erupted. Critics labeled the song as “racist” and “pro-lynching,” leading Country Music Television (CMT) to pull the video without explanation. Aldean, however, stood his ground, dismissing the criticism as “meritless” and “dangerous.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took to Twitter to show his support, stating, “When the media attacks you, you’re doing something right. @Jason_Aldean has nothing to apologize for.”

Former President Donald Trump also voiced his support for Aldean, tweeting, “Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song. Support Jason all the way. MAGA!!!”

Despite the controversy, Aldean’s song soared to the top of the all-genre chart, surpassing popular hits like Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” and Luke Combs’ remake of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” It also climbed from the 11th spot to number one on the iTunes Country Top 40 chart.
In response to the criticism, Aldean took to Twitter to clarify the meaning behind his song. He emphasized that it is a call for unity among Americans, stating, ”There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it.” He also highlighted that the video features real news footage and aims to address the desire for a sense of normalcy in a country plagued by headlines that keep people up at night.

Aldean concluded his statement by reflecting on the sense of community he experienced growing up, where differences in background or belief did not hinder neighbors from taking care of one another. He acknowledged that not everyone agrees on the path to normalcy, but expressed his hope for a future where families are not torn apart by senseless headlines.
