DeSantis to bolster Miami police for spring break
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Takes Action to Ensure a Safe and Enjoyable Spring Break
Gearing up for the upcoming spring break season, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has announced plans to deploy resources and support Miami law enforcement in maintaining peace and order.
With colleges across the country preparing for their annual spring break, DeSantis is taking proactive measures to prevent any chaotic situations from arising. In a news conference, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that this year’s spring break does not descend into mayhem.
“People come down and enjoy themselves, a variety of different ways you can do that, of course,” DeSantis stated. “We have a lot to offer in this state, and we’re proud of that. But we’re not going to let the streets be taken over, we’re not going to let the residents who live here have their quality of life diminished, we’re not going to allow businesses to be hurt by public disorder on the streets or any of this type of activity that we have seen in recent years.”
Recognizing the serious incidents that have occurred during previous spring breaks, including murders and conflicts with law enforcement, DeSantis emphasized the need for additional resources to protect Miami and other cities in Florida.
In 2022, Miami implemented a curfew for nearly a week in mid-March to address dangerous and illegal behavior. The curfew was in effect from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.
Florida was the top choice for spring break travel destinations in the United States last year, with Miami being a popular destination. Other cities such as Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, and New Orleans also attracted spring break travelers.
