DeSantis proposes employing drone strikes against Mexican drug cartels.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Open to Using Drone Strikes Against Mexican Drug Cartels
Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, expressed his willingness to employ drone strikes against drug cartels in Mexico as a means to defend the country. During a campaign event in Iowa, a voter asked DeSantis if he would consider using drone strikes against the cartels. In response, DeSantis stated, “We will absolutely reserve the right if they’re invading our country and killing our people.”
“We will lean in against the drug cartels… We have the right to hold them accountable, and it’s not just if they happen to come over our border. If Mexico is not going to help us with that, well, then we’re going to have to do what we have to do,”
DeSantis has taken a strong stance on border security and combating illegal immigration and crime. He has advocated for allowing federal law enforcement on the southern border to use ”deadly force” against dangerous criminal organizations attempting to enter the United States. At an event in Texas, DeSantis received applause when he declared, “If the cartels are cutting through the border wall trying to run product into this country, they’re going to end up stone-cold dead as a result of that bad decision.”
The issue of drug cartels and their impact on Mexico and the United States has been a significant concern, particularly among Republicans. Many lawmakers have criticized the Mexican government for its inability to curb the violence and influence of these criminal organizations.
DeSantis’s Campaign Strategy
As DeSantis seeks to gain ground on the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, former President Donald Trump, he has made efforts to revamp his campaign team and strategy. His wife, Casey DeSantis, has joined him on stage at campaign events in Iowa City, Iowa. With the first Republican presidential debate approaching, DeSantis aims to improve his polling numbers and solidify his position in the race.
