DeSantis joins Reynolds at Iowa-Iowa State game.
Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis attends Cy-Hawk rivalry game with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds
Over the weekend, Ron DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate, made a campaign stop in Iowa. One of the highlights of his visit was attending the Cy-Hawk rivalry game alongside Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Photos from the event showed DeSantis and Reynolds sitting together before and after the game.
This was a significant moment as Reynolds has yet to publicly endorse a Republican presidential candidate. The fact that she sat with DeSantis at such a high-profile event suggests a potential endorsement in the future.
The game itself was intense, with the Iowa Hawkeyes emerging as the winners with a score of 20-13.

Notably, former President Donald Trump was also in attendance, sitting in a box seat. The crowd’s reaction to Trump was mixed, with cheers and boos captured in a video. Iowa conservative leader Bob Vander Plaats commented on the video, emphasizing that the polls do not accurately reflect the ground reality.

Vander Plaats has been consistently making this point throughout the 2024 campaign cycle. Despite the polls showing Trump leading DeSantis by a significant margin, Vander Plaats believes the reality on the ground is different, with other candidates still in single digits.

Reynolds, who holds significant power and influence within the Republican Party in Iowa, initially stated that she would not endorse any candidate before the Iowa caucuses. However, she later hinted that she might reconsider. Fox News host Shannon Bream highlighted the importance of Reynolds’ endorsement, as it could be a game-changer for the Republican presidential candidates.
Trump had previously criticized Reynolds, stating that he had supported her during her campaign but now felt snubbed by her neutrality. Reynolds responded to Trump’s criticism, emphasizing that it was the people of Iowa who elected her, and she won in a challenging year for Republicans.
DeSantis defended Reynolds, calling Trump’s criticism “totally out of bounds.” However, NBC News reported that top Trump allies expressed concerns about the Trump Campaign’s efforts in Iowa, suggesting that it was not performing as well as expected.
Donald Trump Jr. dismissed the report as “fake news,” taking a swipe at DeSantis’ campaign in the process.
