DeSantis invites Harris to Florida to discuss curriculum, criticizes her.
Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis slams Vice President Kamala Harris over false claims about Florida’s African American history curriculum
In a scathing letter on Monday evening, Governor DeSantis called out Vice President Kamala Harris for her recent trip to Florida, where she made misleading statements about the state’s African American history curriculum.
DeSantis wasted no time in challenging Harris to a face-to-face meeting this week to discuss her remarks. He emphasized Florida’s commitment to open and honest dialogue, stating, “We are unafraid to have an open and honest dialogue about the issues. And you clearly have no trouble ducking down to Florida on short notice.”
The Governor extended an official invitation to Harris, urging her to return to Florida to discuss the African American History standards. He even suggested that Dr. William Allen, a key figure in the development of the impressive new standards, join the conversation. DeSantis welcomed Harris to bring along Randi Weingarten or anyone else who shares her views on the standards.
Dr. William Allen, a former chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and member of Florida’s African American History Standards Workgroup, strongly criticized Harris last week for her “lies” about the curriculum. He highlighted how she cherry-picked one sentence from the 216-page outline to support her false claims.
DeSantis expressed his willingness to meet with Harris as early as Wednesday of that week, but also acknowledged her busy schedule, suggesting that she may already have a trip planned to the southern border. He concluded the letter by emphasizing the importance of a serious conversation on this significant issue and expressed his hope that Harris would be up for it.
“It’s past time to set the record straight.” @GovRonDeSantis is inviting @VP to Florida to discuss our new African American history standards with him and Dr. Allen.
