DeSantis claims to be the ultimate advocate for ‘America First,’ urges candidates without a chance to withdraw.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis: Championing the “America First” Movement
During an engaging interview this week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis proudly declared himself as the top champion for the “America First” movement. He called on candidates who have no realistic chance of winning the Republican Party presidential primary to drop out of the race.
DeSantis’s remarks come as his poll numbers have shown signs of improvement in the latest Real Clear Politics average. After a new CNN poll revealed him with 18% support, while other candidates lagged in the single digits, his numbers rose from 13% to 14.9% in just a few days. Although former President Trump maintains a solid lead in national polls, some state polls indicate a slightly tighter race. Another notable change has been former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley surpassing pharmaceutical executive Vivek Ramaswamy in multiple polls, including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and The Los Angeles Times.
DeSantis’s Vision for the 2024 Presidential Race
During an interview with Dave Rubin, DeSantis discussed various issues in the 2024 presidential race, including attacks from Trump, Trump’s explanation for not firing Dr. Anthony Fauci, poll numbers, future debates, and his own record.
Responding to criticism from Trump about his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in Florida, DeSantis confidently stood by his record. He emphasized that nobody in the Republican base believes that New York handled COVID better than Florida. DeSantis pointed out that Trump himself had praised his governance until just before the midterm elections when he started attacking him.
DeSantis also addressed Trump’s recent statement about not firing Fauci, clarifying that it was not true. He highlighted that Trump’s previous excuse had been the fear of backlash from Democrats and the media, but leadership sometimes requires making tough decisions.

DeSantis further criticized Fauci’s conduct, mentioning his involvement in gain-of-function research and his promotion of the theory that the virus was naturally occurring to downplay the lab leak theory.
DeSantis: A True Champion of America First Policies
When asked about his message to the most dedicated Trump supporters, DeSantis confidently stated that nobody in the Republican Party has delivered more on America First policies and principles than him. He listed his policy achievements, including cracking down on illegal immigration, expanding Second Amendment rights, fighting against ESG and “woke” corporations, removing Soros prosecutors, and strengthening election integrity in Florida. DeSantis emphasized that he has fulfilled and exceeded his promises to the voters.
Regarding the current polling that shows Trump with a commanding lead, DeSantis acknowledged Trump’s high name recognition as a significant factor. However, he suggested that some polls may be biased to push a narrative of Trump’s inevitable victory. DeSantis revealed that he has data indicating that a substantial portion of Trump’s support comes from voters who are open to supporting a strong candidate with a proven record of delivering on America First principles.
DeSantis expressed satisfaction with his current position in Iowa, comparing it favorably to the positions of previous candidates like Rick Santorum and Ted Cruz at the same stage of their campaigns. He also emphasized the importance of Trump participating in the debates, asserting that no candidate is entitled to the nomination and suggesting that some candidates should consider dropping out to focus on those with a realistic chance of winning.
DeSantis concluded by highlighting his record of success and his readiness to address any shortcomings that opponents may raise. He firmly believes that he is prepared to navigate the presidential race and make a significant impact as a change agent for the country.
