DeSantis slams Biden and media for ‘disastrous’ situation in Maui.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Slams Biden Administration and Media for Ignoring Tragic Fire in Maui

During a press conference ‍on Sunday,⁤ Governor Ron DeSantis criticized the ‌Biden administration and the mainstream media for their lack of coverage ‍on the devastating fire that destroyed a historic town in Maui, Hawaii.‌ DeSantis made these remarks while discussing the recovery ⁢efforts in Florida ‌following Hurricane Idalia.

Uncovering the Truth

When a reporter inquired about trust in‌ the federal government’s ability to provide assistance, DeSantis responded passionately, “I think that Maui is a‍ total catastrophe, what happened there. And I don’t think we have all the answers to ⁢that. I think we should have all the answers to that. It’s interesting how incurious our corporate media is about what happened in Maui. I mean, I don’t see them interviewing parents who can’t ‌find their kids ⁤and people we know, there’s a lot of people missing. So that was a total disaster, really, really heartbreaking to hear some of the stories, even though they’re not being publicized.”

The governor emphasized‍ the stark contrast⁢ between the situation in⁤ Maui and the hurricane in Florida, attributing Florida’s preparedness to his administration’s proactive ⁤measures.

Florida’s Preparedness

“Florida, ‌especially under my administration, extensively prepares for these types of events ahead of time,” DeSantis explained. ”The federal⁢ government’s role is⁢ just turning ⁤on ‌programs that Congress has enacted over many, many years. It’s basically serving ⁣as a checkbook to get people reimbursed for debris cleanup and to provide individual assistance. In that‍ sense, I anticipate a smooth process. ⁤However, most of the nuts ⁣and bolts are ‍handled by our‌ local communities and the state of Florida. ⁣Disaster response is really a bottom-up approach.”

DeSantis highlighted⁢ the crucial role played by local governments in warning residents about potential storm surges, stating, “The⁣ state manages and assists,‌ but the⁤ bread and butter lies with the local communities. The checkbook from ‌the feds is great, and we’ll utilize all available resources ⁢to help Floridians. However,‌ we’re not relying solely on the federal government for day-to-day heavy lifting.”

“As ‌Floridians, as people⁢ in the counties and municipalities, and of course at the state level, we will take charge,” DeSantis concluded.
