DeSantis’s Major Campaign Shift Aims to Boost Presidential Ambitions
DeSantis Makes Biggest Campaign Change Yet in Hopes of Jump-Starting Presidential Bid
Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis is shaking things up in his campaign as he seeks to revitalize his stagnant presidential bid.
The Florida governor has appointed James Uthmeier, his chief of staff from his state office, as his new campaign manager, replacing Generra Peck, who previously led DeSantis’ re-election campaign before transitioning to the same role in his presidential bid.
However, Peck will remain on board as a strategist.
This move comes after DeSantis recently made significant staff cuts, letting go of about a third of his team in late July due to financial difficulties.
“James Uthmeier has been one of Governor DeSantis’ top advisers for years, and he is needed where it matters most: working hand in hand with Generra Peck and the rest of the team to put the governor in the best possible position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” said campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo.
In addition to the change in campaign manager, DeSantis is also bringing on David Polyansky, an operative who previously worked on a super PAC supporting his campaign. Polyansky, who advised Never Back Down, will join as a deputy campaign manager.
Romeo emphasized the importance of Polyansky’s addition to the team, citing his experience in early voting Iowa, which has become a crucial battleground for the DeSantis campaign.
Polyansky has previously worked on the presidential campaigns of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in 2016. In Iowa, he played a key role in helping Joni Ernst secure her election to the U.S. Senate in 2014 and aiding Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s victory in the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses in 2008.
The staff shakeup was first reported by The Messenger on Tuesday.
