DeSantis retaliates against Trump at California GOP convention.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Fires Back at Trump, Defends Florida’s Red Status

In a⁢ fiery dinner⁣ address to the California ‌GOP convention, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) hit back at ⁢former President Donald Trump’s claim that he turned Florida red. DeSantis, who was mockingly referred to as “Ron DeSanctimonious” ⁣by Trump earlier in the day, didn’t hold back in his response.

“All I will say is that Ronald Reagan made the point there’s ‍no limit to‌ what you can do when you don’t care who gets the credit.⁢ I just wished if he was the one that turned Florida red that he wouldn’t ‌have turned Georgia and Arizona blue because that’s not been good for us at all.”

Trump lost⁣ both Arizona and Georgia in the 2020 election, and DeSantis⁣ didn’t hesitate to point out the negative impact it had on ‌Republicans. He also took a swipe at Trump’s⁤ contribution to the national debt, a topic he has frequently criticized on the campaign trail.

“We know that the inflation that we’re suffering under is‌ the result of ⁢borrowing, printing, and spending by members of Congress in both parties across ⁢two administrations over the last three and a half years that sunk trillions and trillions of dollars into the economy paying people not to work, doing all this other stuff. Of course,‌ you are going to get inflation ‍when that happens.”

While acknowledging the challenges faced⁤ by Trump during the COVID-19⁤ pandemic, DeSantis highlighted the ⁤significant increase in the national debt under his⁢ administration, including ⁣the costly Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

The tension between the ‍Trump and DeSantis campaigns was further fueled ⁢by recent rule changes in⁣ California’s delegate allocation. Never Back Down, the super PAC supporting DeSantis’s presidential campaign, withdrew resources from California due to⁤ the state GOP’s⁣ proposal to change delegate ‌allocation rules. ⁤The move was described as “Trump-inspired rigging.”

DeSantis also mentioned his upcoming debate ⁤with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA)⁢ on Fox News, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the issues rather than engaging in⁢ back-and-forth exchanges. He highlighted Florida’s success in various ‍areas, such as education freedom, ⁣and contrasted it with⁤ the decline he sees in California.

Before concluding his speech, DeSantis listed his accomplishments as governor and positioned himself as the best-suited Republican to lead the party. He urged California ⁢Republicans to stand ⁣up for their freedom and emphasized the need to save the country.

⁣According to DeSantis, what factors‌ contributed to⁣ Florida’s transformation into ‌a red state

Ause he didn’t care who got the credit,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis emphasized‌ the importance of unity within the Republican ‍Party and criticized the divisive rhetoric displayed by Trump. He argued that instead of fostering division, it is crucial for Republicans to come together and focus on the party’s common goals and values.

“Rather than engaging⁢ in petty ‍name-calling and taking credit ⁢for others’ achievements, we should be celebrating the successes⁢ of the entire party. It is through collaboration and unity that ⁣we can⁤ truly make a difference and promote conservative values,” ⁤DeSantis stated.

The Governor also defended Florida’s status as a red state, highlighting the efforts made by his administration to‍ support conservative policies and protect individual liberties. He credited the state’s flourishing economy, low taxes, ⁢and strong ‌stance on law and order as factors contributing to its vibrant Republican base.

“Florida’s transformation into a red state was not a result of one individual’s actions. It was a collective effort by committed conservatives to promote pro-growth ⁤policies, safeguard our ‍constitutional rights, and ⁤prioritize the‌ needs of our citizens,” DeSantis explained.

Furthermore, DeSantis‍ addressed the ongoing challenges faced by the Republican Party and emphasized‍ the importance⁤ of focusing on the future rather than dwelling on past differences. He called for a renewed focus ⁢on issues that truly matter to the American people, such as economic prosperity, national security, and ‍individual freedoms.

“We cannot afford⁤ to be distracted by infighting and personal rivalries. Our party must remain‍ focused on delivering results and advocating for ⁤the principles that we hold dear. This ⁣is what will truly make a difference in the lives of the ⁢American people,” ⁣DeSantis asserted.

In conclusion, Gov.⁤ Ron‍ DeSantis took a stand against former ‌President Donald Trump’s claim that he ‌was solely⁣ responsible for‌ turning Florida red. DeSantis ‌emphasized the need⁢ for unity within the Republican Party⁣ and advocated for‌ a collaborative approach to achieve conservative goals. He ⁤defended Florida’s red status, attributing it to the collective⁤ efforts of committed conservatives. DeSantis urged Republicans ‌to prioritize the interests of the American people and focus on core conservative ⁢values.
