Democrat blames Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley’s ‘MAGA extremism’ for debt ceiling vote.

Rep. Wasserman-Schultz Blames Governor DeSantis for Debt Ceiling Vote

“The nerve of MAGA extremism like DeSantis and Nikki Haley and Tim Scott — they refused to even put on the table restoring some of the $1.9T tax cuts that were unpaid for, that blew a hole in our deficit on their watch, under Donald Trump,”

During a recent interview with MSNBC’s Politics Nation host Al Sharpton, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) placed the blame for the debt ceiling vote on Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis (R). She implied that DeSantis and other Republican candidates for the party’s presidential nomination had a hand in the negotiations, despite not being in Congress.

Good Cop, Bad Cop: How GOP Negotiators Handled Debt Ceiling Talks

Wasserman-Schultz, who previously served as the Democratic National Committee chair, has represented several different Florida districts in Congress since her initial election in 2004. She expressed her disdain for DeSantis’s response to the NAACP’s travel advisory against Florida, which she called “racist.”

DeSantis had said that black kids in states without a travel advisory from the organization “have a better chance of getting shot than getting a first-class education” like they would in Florida. In the 2022 election, DeSantis’s Democratic opponent, Charlie Crist, swept away 86% of the black vote. Despite the controversy, Florida remains the state with the highest number of black-owned businesses, according to Pew Research Center.
