A Minnesota DFL Party Official’s Change of Heart After Violent Attack
A Minnesota DFL Party official who once advocated for defunding the police during the George Floyd riots has had a change of heart after experiencing a violent attack herself.
Shivanthi Sathanandan, the Second Vice Chairwoman for the DFL, shared a shocking image of her bloodied face after being carjacked at her home while her children were present.
“Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids,” she wrote in a Facebook post, accompanied by a photo she took of herself. “The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight.”
Sathanandan, with a broken leg, deep lacerations on her head, and bruises and cuts all over her body, expressed her rage and called for action.
“These men knew what they were doing. I have NO DOUBT they have done this before. Yet they are still on OUR STREETS. Killing mothers. Giving babies psychological trauma that a lifetime of therapy cannot erase. With no hesitation and no remorse.”
She emphasized the need to get illegal guns off the streets, apprehend the young people responsible for the chaos, and hold them accountable for their actions.

Expressing her determination, Sathanandan thanked law enforcement and vowed that these criminals will not win. She pledged to continue fighting to take back their city.

As noted by the New York Post, Sathanandan had previously called for defunding the police in 2020.
“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police department. Say it with me,” she wrote on Facebook. “DISMANTLE The Minneapolis Police Department.”
In another post, she commended the Minneapolis School Board for removing police officers from schools.
