Dean Phillips believes that Republicans have a strong chance of winning if they choose to promote Nikki Haley as their candidate against Biden
Rep. Dean Phillips Predicts Nikki Haley Could Defeat President Biden in 2024
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) has made a bold prediction, stating that former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley could defeat President Joe Biden in a 2024 matchup if she becomes the Republican nominee.
In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Phillips warned that former President Donald Trump would also defeat Biden in a general election, but he believes that if Republicans choose Haley as their candidate, they would win by an even bigger margin.
Phillips’ Confidence in His Own Party
However, Phillips expressed confidence in his own party, stating, “If Democrats were to elevate me, I believe Democrats will win in 2024.”
The Biden campaign declined to comment on Phillips’ remarks to the Washington Examiner.
Haley’s Strong Advantage Over Biden
Haley’s campaign recently highlighted her significant advantage over Biden in a new Wall Street Journal poll, where she leads him by 17 points, with 51% support compared to his 34%.
Since the first Republican National Committee debate in August, Haley has gained momentum, surpassing Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in New Hampshire and expanding her lead over him in South Carolina, her home state. She has also begun to threaten his stance in Iowa, where DeSantis has been focusing his campaign effort.
Phillips’ Appeal for Change
Phillips, who is challenging Biden in the Democratic primary, pointed out that both Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, would be well into their 80s by the end of their term if elected. He emphasized the public’s concerns about both men, stating, “They don’t want either in the White House.”
Explaining the public’s desire for change, Phillips said, ”There’s this immense appetite for change… and they want someone new.”
Phillips’ Long-Shot Bid Against Biden
In October, Phillips, a relatively unknown Minnesota representative, launched his bid against Biden. He is focusing his efforts on New Hampshire, as the state’s primary is crucial to his pathway to the nomination. Biden did not file for the state’s primary, as the Democratic Party decided to make the South Carolina primary the first in the nation.
Instead, Biden’s campaign is coordinating a write-in effort in New Hampshire to ensure his victory in the matchup.
Despite his low name recognition and young campaign, Phillips is making an impact in New Hampshire. In a primary poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, he garnered 10% support in a short time after launching his White House bid, surpassing long-time candidate Marianne Williamson. Biden’s support, which was at 78% in September, has slid to 65%.
Phillips has been critical of the Democratic National Committee for not holding primary debates, even though Biden is the incumbent president who traditionally does not participate in primary debates when running for reelection. He has even entertained the idea of participating in non-DNC-affiliated debates hosted by major networks, which have reached out to him.

What challenges and opportunities do Nikki Haley and Joe Biden face as they prepare for the 2024 election in Olina, and how might these factors shape the outcome
Olina, a key battleground state.
Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration, particularly on issues such as immigration and foreign policy. Her strong stance on these issues, as well as her experience as a former United Nations ambassador, has resonated with Republican voters who are looking for a strong and experienced leader to take on Biden in 2024.
Furthermore, Haley’s record as governor of South Carolina has been widely praised, with her successful response to natural disasters such as Hurricane Matthew and her focus on economic development earning her high approval ratings. This track record of effective leadership could also give her an edge over Biden, who has faced criticism for his handling of various crises during his first term.
The Role of Trump in the 2024 Election
Rep. Phillips’ prediction also raises questions about the role of former President Trump in the 2024 election. While Phillips stated that Trump would defeat Biden if he were the Republican nominee, he believes that Haley would have an even greater chance of victory. This suggests that there may be a growing sector within the Republican party that is looking for a new face and fresh ideas, rather than a return to Trump’s brand of politics.
However, Trump still remains a significant force within the party, with a strong and loyal base of supporters. His endorsement could greatly influence the outcome of the 2024 primary, and it remains to be seen whether he will choose to endorse Haley or another candidate.
The Road Ahead for Haley and Biden
As the 2024 election cycle begins to take shape, it is clear that both Haley and Biden will face significant challenges. Haley will need to continue to build support and momentum in order to secure the Republican nomination, while Biden will need to navigate the complexities of his presidency and address the concerns of voters.
Ultimately, it is too early to make definitive predictions about the outcome of the 2024 election. Many factors will come into play, including the state of the economy, domestic and international events, and the candidates’ campaigns and messaging strategies. However, Rep. Phillips’ bold prediction serves as a reminder that politics is often unpredictable, and anything can happen in the world of elections.
As the 2024 election approaches, all eyes will be on Nikki Haley and Joe Biden as they navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
