Dean Phillips has reduced campaign staff, but remains committed to the race
Rep. Dean Phillips Announces Staff Layoffs, Vows to Stay in Presidential Race
Despite facing financial challenges, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is determined to continue his insurgent presidential primary challenge against President Joe Biden. In a heartfelt video posted on X Friday evening, Phillips acknowledged the difficulty of raising funds as a candidate defying the Democratic Party.
“But I found it almost impossible to raise enough to do this campaign the way I want,” he expressed. “And today, sadly, I had to announce layoffs to a lot of my staff members. Amazing people who gave up a lot personally and a lot professionally to join this remarkable campaign. And it was a really tough day for all of us.”
Despite losing the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries to Biden, Phillips made it clear that he is not dropping out of the race.
“So if you still believe that change is possible, and you still believe that we can do better, please consider investing in our campaign,” Phillips urged his supporters. “I’m going to continue this journey as long as you want this journey continued.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to the Phillips campaign for comment. In New Hampshire, Biden secured a resounding victory with 64% of the vote, even though he was not on the ballot. Granite State Democrats organized a write-in campaign for Biden to avoid any potential embarrassment if Phillips had emerged victorious.
In South Carolina, President Biden triumphed over Phillips and Democrat Marianne Williamson, garnering an overwhelming 96.2% of the votes. Phillips finished a distant third with only 1.7% support.
Phillips launched his campaign in an effort to provide an alternative for voters who are disenchanted with another Biden-Trump rematch.
“They can’t believe that we’re going to have a rematch potentially from 2020,” he stated. “They are disgusted by Donald Trump. They cannot believe that Joe Biden thinks he’s going to serve through January of 2029.”
According to Phillips, thousands of frustrated voters from both parties have expressed their support for his candidacy.

How does Phillips’ decision to stay in the race despite layoffs reflect his commitment to his cause?
A grassroots candidate but reaffirmed his commitment to the race.
The announcement came alongside the unfortunate news of staff layoffs within Phillips’ campaign. The decision to downsize was a direct result of the financial constraints faced by the campaign. Phillips expressed gratitude for the hard work and dedication of his staff members, acknowledging that their contributions had been invaluable to the campaign’s progress thus far.
Despite the setback, Phillips remains undeterred in his pursuit of the presidency. He sees his campaign as a platform to amplify the voices of ordinary Americans and to push for real change in the political landscape. The layoffs serve as a testament to the challenges faced by grassroots candidates in a system that often favors well-established candidates with deep pockets.
Phillips, a self-described political outsider, has been vocal about his frustration with the current state of American politics. He believes that the influence of money in politics has eroded the integrity of the system and contributed to the growing divide between the government and the people it is meant to serve.
The decision to stay in the presidential race despite the layoffs is a bold move that reflects Phillips’ steadfast commitment to his cause. While the financial strain will undoubtedly present additional hurdles, Phillips remains confident in his ability to rally support from grassroots donors who share his vision for a more inclusive and responsive government.
The announcement and layoffs come at a critical juncture in the presidential primary race, with President Biden’s popularity wavering and the Democratic Party divided on various policy issues. Phillips hopes to capitalize on this moment of uncertainty by presenting himself as a viable alternative to the current administration.
His focus on campaign finance reform, healthcare accessibility, and addressing income inequality resonates with a broad spectrum of voters who believe in the need for systemic change. By staying in the race, Phillips aims to further galvanize this support and demonstrate that an outsider candidate can successfully challenge the status quo.
While the layoffs undoubtedly present challenges for Phillips’ campaign, it is worth noting that other successful candidates, such as Bernie Sanders, have faced similar financial setbacks in the past and still managed to make a significant impact on the political landscape. This serves as a reminder that determination and a strong message can overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
As the presidential primary race continues to unfold, all eyes will be on Rep. Dean Phillips and his ability to navigate the turbulent waters of American politics. Despite the difficult circumstances, Phillips has chosen to stay the course, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his campaign and his belief in the power of the people.
In a time when political disillusionment runs deep, Phillips offers a refreshing alternative—a candidate who refuses to be swayed by the traditional forces at play. While the path ahead may be challenging, Phillips’ decision to stay in the race serves as a beacon of hope for grassroots candidates everywhere who strive to bring about real change in our democratic system.
Whether or not Phillips ultimately succeeds in his bid for the presidency, his courageous stance will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the political landscape. By daring to challenge the status quo and vowing to stay in the race despite the odds, Phillips has already inspired countless individuals to believe that their voices matter and that change is possible.
