DC Rocked by Targeted Explosions, Police Scrambling to Find the Bomber
Police in Washington, D.C. are on the hunt for a suspect who caused damage to three businesses in a series of bombings early Sunday.
The Metropolitan Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are working together to identify the suspect and the vehicle seen outside one of the targeted businesses.
According to WUSA, police have released a surveillance image of a gold or champagne-color Acura TL with Maryland license plate 17971CK. The image also shows an individual wearing a light-colored hoodie at the scene of the explosions.

The first attack occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday when an explosive device damaged an ATM at the Truist Bank on Washington Place in Northeast D.C. The suspect fled the scene after the blast.
Just six minutes later, the same suspect detonated a bomb on the sidewalk outside the Nike Store on H Street, Northeast. Once again, the suspect fled after the explosion.
The third blast occurred at 4:45 a.m.

According to the police statement, the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail-style object at the Safeway store located in the 300 block of 40th Street, Northeast, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Will this suspect ever be caught?
According to the police statement, the suspect targeted commercial establishments and not members of the public. Fortunately, the businesses were closed at the time of the attacks, and no injuries were reported.
The MPD is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The ATF is also offering the same reward, bringing the total reward to $20,000 for a tip that leads to a successful outcome.
Residents in the area were shaken by the explosions. One resident living above the bank described how the blast rattled his home, knocking pictures and security cameras off the walls.
Customers and community members expressed their concern and shock over the incidents.
Through May, violent crime in Washington D.C. has increased by 10 percent compared to last year, including a 15 percent rise in homicides, according to Fox Business.
