Davis: If GOP Wants To Win Midterms, It Need To Pass SAVE Act
Republicans worried about losing in the upcoming November midterms can bolster turnout by delivering on the promises they made to voters — including passing the SAVE America Act, The Federalist’s CEO and cofounder Sean Davis said on Jesse Watters Primetime.
Republicans, who appear slated to lose the House, are also now reportedly worried about losing control of the Senate as well. Guest host Rachel Campos-Duffy asked Davis what Republicans need to do to win the midterms.
“While Trump’s policies are really popular, the Republicans in Congress themselves are not that popular and Trump isn’t on the ballot. So you’ve got Dems all jacked up to … vote against Republicans, but what Republicans need to do is to deliver on the things they said they were going to do,” Davis said.
“They can’t just show up, pass one bill, and play possum,” he continued. “They’ve got to work to make prices permanently lower. They need to work to permanently make health care and college and housing more affordable. And their strategy thus far of kind of just hiding and doing nothing is not going to work out well for them. So they need to actually start … moving and passing laws to deliver on what they promised they would do.”
Campos-Duffy pointed out that trust in government has collapsed, but that one way Republicans can increase trust is by securing elections and passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, which will require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and photo ID for casting a ballot.
Davis noted that Republicans in the Senate have passed just two bills in 2026, despite holding a majority, and have voted on average once per day.
“Why not bring up the SAVE America Act? Secure our elections. Do voter ID. Make it happen,” Davis implored. “Who cares how long it takes! It’s not like they are doing anything else. If we don’t have secure elections and election integrity, all these other issues don’t matter. It doesn’t matter how popular you are if these people can just flood the system.”
The SAVE America Act passed the House 218-213, but the legislation appears to be stalling in the Republican-controlled Senate. As The Federalist’s Matt Kittle wrote, election integrity measures in the legislation are wildly popular, and bringing up a vote in the Senate via the “talking filibuster” would force legislators to “explain to the 80 percent of Americans (including a significant number of Democrats) who support citizenship and ID requirements, why they so vehemently oppose basic election integrity.”
Davis also gave Republicans a parting word of advice: “If Trump has taught us anything, it’s that the mold in politics has been broken. You don’t have to be a politician to get elected to nationwide office anymore.”
If Democrats win the midterms, they will hamstring “the whole government,” Davis warned, “and they’re coming after all of us. We saw what they did after J6. We saw what they did with the censorship industrial complex, trying to shut down anyone, the speech of anyone they didn’t like. They have not been cowed on those issues. They’re just waiting for a chance to strike back and even harder the next time they have power.”
