Pennsylvania State Police have announced the capture of escaped murderer Danelo Souza Cavalcante, who had been on the run for nearly two weeks. The capture was made in the South Coventry Township area, where heavily armed police had closed roads and urged residents to lock their doors.

Cavalcante, 34, had escaped from jail in Chester County on August 31 while awaiting transfer to a state prison to serve a life sentence for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in 2021. The victim, Deborah Brandao, was killed in front of her children after she threatened to report Cavalcante as a wanted fugitive.
Originally from Brazil, Cavalcante is an illegal immigrant who entered the United States after becoming a murder suspect in his home country. Many have questioned why he was allowed to remain in the U.S. while being wanted for murder in Brazil.
The manhunt for Cavalcante lasted 14 days in rural southeastern Pennsylvania, with law enforcement officers conducting a thorough search despite challenging weather conditions.

During the manhunt, residents in the affected area were advised to stay at home, schools canceled classes, and law enforcement officers conducted vehicle searches at roadblocks.
